Ouida Newman Sloan, 85, widow of H.A. \"Buster\" Sloan, after 63 years of marriage, formerly of Madisonville, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at NHC Health Care of Athens.
A daughter of the late Rolin and Mable Newman, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Madisonville and was a graduate of Englewood High School and Maryville College. She was a retired Monroe County Elementary School teacher and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. An avid collector of antique dolls and other collectables, she displayed and decorated her home year-round with items she had collected for many years. Home was always open for friends to come by during the Christmas and holiday seasons.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen M. and Cliffette Sloan of Maryville, and Allen Sloan of Loudon; one granddaughter and spouse, Kelleye and Eric Swanson of Tellico Plains; two great-grandchildren, Cody Swanson and Evan Swanson, both of Tellico Plains; one sister-in-law, Sue Sloan of Madisonville; one brother-in-law, Warren Graves of Morristown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Biereley-Hale Funeral Home with Dr. Lon Shoopman and the Rev. John E. Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Haven Hill Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
