Naomi Smith, 90, of Charleston, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at a local health care facility.
A daughter of the late Weldon and Volena Masengil, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jethero Smith; one son, Sam Smith; one brother, Theadore Masengil; and one daughter-in-law, Lena Smith. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Her husband was a Baptist minister, and together they served churches in East Tennessee and North Georgia for more than 50 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Joan Land and her husband, Jim, of Charleston; one sister, Thelma Scoggins of Cleveland; one daughter-in-law, Linda Smith of Powder Springs Ga.; grandchildren, Nathan Land and his wife, Brandy, of Charleston, Sherry Massingill and her husband, Robert, of Bowdon, Ga., David Smith and his wife, Geri, of Londrina, Brazil; great-grandchildren, Ruby Land, Jessica Massingill, Samantha Massingill, William Massingill, Maria Smith, Rachel Smith and Rebecca Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life Service was noon Wednesday at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Huff officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers were John Masengil, Wilburn Masengil, Butch Haire, Robert Rominger, Robert Massingill and Nathan Land. An honorary casket bearer was Dickie Houston.
The family received friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the North Ocoee Street Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes.
Jim Rush Funeral Homes of Cleveland was in charge of arrangements.
