R.L. McKenzie, 75, of Decatur, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, after a battle with Leukemia.



He was born on Sept. 26, 1937, in Big Springs to the late Ruben L. McKenzie and Myrtle Thompson McKenzie Randolph. He graduated from Meigs County High School in 1957 and McKenzie Business College in 1960 with a degree in accounting. He had worked for the Tennessee Department of Transportation and also served as sheriff of Meigs County from 1982 to 1990. He was a member of Decatur Lions Club and the Decatur Jaycees, as well as a past chairman for the Meigs County Democratic Party. He was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Decatur. He enjoyed his time traveling.



Survivors include his wife, Jane Suits McKenzie of Decatur; his children and their spouses, Ruben \"Mike\" and Michele McKenzie, Tony McKenzie and the mother of his son, Michelle, Chris and Bridget McKenzie and Jennifer McKenzie, all of Decatur; grandchildren, Logan McKenzie, Bryce McKenzie, Tanner McKenzie and Emma Womac; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy G. and Johnnie McKenzie of Decatur, George Madison and Shelby McKenzie of Harrison, and Jerry M. and Jeania McKenzie of Decatur; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Benny Deloach of Decatur; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann and Ned Johnson of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews and numerous beloved family members and friends.



There will be no formal visitation.



A private family service will be held.



Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Hospital Cancer Center, 605 Glenwood Dr., Suite 100, Chattanooga, TN 37404.
