On Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, Helen Marie Lowry Dougherty, of Athens, completed her journey that began Sept. 18, 1924.

After various employments and completing her education at Tennessee Wesleyan College, she began a teaching career at McMinn County High School in the science/biology department. For 20 years she taught, mentored and nurtured young minds and is remembered still by some of her students as one of their favorites.

Still, she managed to travel to the four corners of the USA to visit friends and relatives or to simply sightsee.
