Elizabeth Ellen Kennedy Vaughn Maddox, 76, of Athens, a loving mother, wife, sister and friend, peacefully left this life for her eternal home on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center.



She is now sheltered in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She looked forward to a happy reunion with loved ones who\'d gone before her, especially her loving husband, Willard Vaughn; and the light of her life, her beloved son, Jason.



She was born in McMinn County to the late Charlie and Treece Gibson Kennedy and stepmother Willie Mae Kennedy. She was originally from Meigs County, before living most of her life in the Idlewild community in McMinn County. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Kennedy and Dale Kennedy. She was a member of Idlewild Baptist Church, YMCA and Nocatula Civitan Club.



Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Charles \"Buster\" Maddox of Athens; two sons, David Vaughn of Athens, and Rickey Vaughn of Cleveland; one daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Rick Bishop of Athens; two stepsons and their wives, Butch and Cindie Maddox and Randy and Debbie Maddox, all of Calhoun; one stepdaughter and her husband, Anita Jo and David Norton of Decatur; her sweet sister and best friend, Loretta Bivens of Etowah; three grandchildren, Meghan Bishop and Taylor and Chloee Vaughn; step-grandchildren, Brad Maddox, Staci and Camus Crisp, Clint Maddox, Tyler and Amanda Norton and Aaron and Kelly Maddox; one great-grandson, Greer Bishop; step-great-grandchildren, Jayden Curtis, Skye Cooper, Alexis and Kallie Maddox, Caden Crisp, Madison Maddox and Kenzie Norton; two loving aunts, Hester Stephens and Betty Kennedy; three sisters-in-law, Lois Randolph, Louise Underwood, and Estella Erwin and her husband, John; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.



Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Thomas officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Idlewild Cemetery.



Active pallbearers will be her grandchildren.



The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
