Dorothy L. Stevens, 81, of Athens, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Bloomfield, N.J., a former resident of Brandon, Miss., and Signal Mountain, and a resident of Athens for the last 12 years, she was a daughter of the late Marcus and Anna Martin Lyon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William T. Stevens Jr., on May 5, 2002. She was a member of Mars Hill Presbyterian Church and will be remembered as a priceless woman who easily shared her gifts of sweet smiles, kind words and tender touches to one and all.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Ken and Pat Stevens of Ringgold, Ga., and Bruce Stevens of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Happy Powell of Athens; two granddaughters and their husbands, Mary Ann and Jim Sokolowski of Nashville, and Eleanor and Cale Hildebrand of Johnson City; one great-grandson, James Sokolowski; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Leslie Rust officiating. Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in National Cemetery in Chattanooga.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
