Katherine Elizabeth Spurling Shelton, 77, of Decatur, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, Sept. 12, 2012, at NHC Health Care of Athens.
A native of McMinn County, she had lived in Bradley County for many years before moving to Decatur. She was a daughter of the late George Spurling and Thelma Louise Smyre Spurling Queen and was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Shelton; and her former husband, Billy Shelton. She was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church and had attended Hopewell Baptist Church in Cleveland.
Survivors include four daughters and two sons-in-law, Billie Sue Shackelford and Tammy Shelton, both of Athens, and Sharon and Michael Franklin and Teresa and Ronnie Price, all of Cleveland; one stepdaughter, Lisa Branam of Old Fort; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Debra Shelton of Birchwood, and John and Sharon Shelton and Tony and Glenda Shelton, all of Cleveland; six grandchildren, Mitchell Shelton and his wife, Angie, Jason Shelton, Joshua Price, Cody Shelton, Amber Shelton and Allison Branam; one great-granddaughter, MaKayley Shelton; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty O\'Connor of Chebanse, Ill., Brenda and Earl Patterson of Grand Prairie, Texas, Jane and Eddie Boyd of Athens, and Debbie Butcher of Massachusetts; and one brother and sister-in-law, Robert Wayne and Sharron Spurling of Littleton, Colo.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Rymer and the Rev. Bill Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Shelton, Mitchell Shelton, Joshua Price, Cody Shelton, Demarr Melton, Michael Franklin and Ronnie Price.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
