Bernice Thompson Marler, a loving wife, sister and aunt, 80, of Athens, passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at NHC Health Care of Athens.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Ellis Silas and Bertha Mae Ferguson Thompson.
Because of her love for children and her Lord, she taught third grade Sunday school and Training Union at North Athens Baptist Church for 35 years. For the past 10 years, she was a member of Marshall Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Charles C. Marler, to whom she would have been married 60 years on Dec. 30, 2012. Mrs. Marler also is survived by two sisters, Verleen Thompson and Juanita Inman, both of Athens.
Mrs. Marler was affectionately known by her family as simply \"Becie.\"
Other survivors include one niece, Elisha Shamblin of Marietta, Ga.; two nephews, Gino Inman of Asheville, N.C., and Nick Inman of Hilton Head, S.C.; along with two great-nieces, Tina Stewart and Tawnya Brogdon, and one great-nephew, Mark Shamblin, all of Marietta Ga., and adored their precious \"Becie.\"
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Oran Creasman officiating.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Marshall Hill Baptist Church, 621 County Rd. 255, Niota, TN 37826.
