Amanda Louise Knox Burkett, 90, of Niota, died Monday, July 23, 2012, at NHC Health Care of Athens.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late John and Sallie Starr Knox, and was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jesse Raymond Burkett, on Feb. 14, 1997; two brothers, John I. Knox and Charlie Knox; and four sisters, Dorcas Knox, Murray Stout, Oneida Elliott and Ruth Dake. She was retired from Crescent Hosiery Mill and was a member of Niota First Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse \"Bud\" and Betty Burkett, Fred and Janie Burkett and Keith and Vicki Burkett, all of Niota; one brother, William \"Bill\" Knox of Athens; four sisters, Imogene Lane of Verns, Virginia Richenson of Sweetwater, Bobbie Billings of Athens, and Ella Dilbeck of Niota; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank NHC Health Care for their love and care during Mrs. Burkett\'s stay.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Farmer officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Grant Sewell, Martin Sewell, Tim Schultz, Scott Burkett, Ray Burkett, Chris Burkett and J.C. Burkett. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Burkett, Taylor Schultz and Jacob Slack.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
