Clarence Fay Thompson, 82, of Sweetwater, died Monday, May 14, 2012, at Wood Presbyterian Home in Sweetwater.
A native of Monroe County, a former resident of McMinn County and a resident of Sweetwater for the past seven years, he was a son of the late Ferris and Carrie Roy Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Deloris Plemons Thompson, on Oct. 18, 2004; one daughter, Doris Shelton; and one granddaughter, April Curtis. He was a member of Woodward Avenue Church of God and was the former owner and operator of Englewood Chair Company.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Thompson of Sweetwater; two daughters, Billie Crabtree of Decatur, and Shirley Fleming of Savannah, Ga.; one brother, Bruce Thompson of Sweetwater; four grandchildren, Joe Crabtree, Jason Crabtree, Amber Thompson and Autumn Thompson; four great-grandchildren, Hunter Curtis, Madison Crabtree, McKenzie Crabtree and Cole Crabtree; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Fritts and the Rev. Doyle Prince officiating. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Sunrise Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Jason Crabtree, Joe Crabtree, Ronnie Davis, Thom Johnson, David Plemons and Joby Crabtree.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
