William Harry Holder, 69, of Athens, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Life Care Center of Athens.



A lifelong resident of Athens and McMinn County, he was a son of the late Raymond William and Edna Mae Underwood Holder, and was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Hayes Holder, on March 6, 2008; and an infant baby brother.



He was a member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church. He was an employee of Transport Services for 26 years from 1981-2009 and other companies. He received an award for 2 million safe miles of driving. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, having served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard.



Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Crystal Holder of Athens; three daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy and Randy Davis of Riceville, Kim and Doug DeSherlia of Etowah, and Bambi and Stephen Johns of Ooltewah; one brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Gail Holder of Cosby; one sister, Betty Holder of Athens; six grandchildren, Blake Croft, Sarah Davis, Drew Davis, Megan Holder, Hunter Johns and Trevor Johns; a soon-to-be great-grandson, Riley James Hayes Linton; one brother-in-law and his spouse, Greg and Shamra Hayes of Athens; one sister-in-law and her spouse, Frances and Jackie Burns of Etowah; and several nieces and nephews.



Funeral services were 8 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Blanchette and the Rev. Ogle Wattenbarger officiating. Graveside services were 11 a.m. Monday at McMinn Memory Gardens.



Active pallbearers were Danny Richesin, Jimmy Curtis, Charlie Womac, Mark Black, Terry Chandler and Barry Richesin. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Athens Travelers Club.



The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
