Poley O. Davis Jr., 86, of Etowah, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Etowah Health Care Rehabilitation Center.



A native of Benham, Ky., and a former resident of Ypsilanti, Mich., he was retired from General Motors as a quality control supervisor. He was a World War II veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Navy.



He was a member of Wesleyanna United Methodist Church, Etowah Masonic Lodge 653 and VFW 5146 of Athens. A son of the late Poley Oscar Sr. and Ethel Perkins Davis, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Buttram Cochran Davis, and their son, Allen Davis; his stepmother, Sadie Young Davis; and two half-brothers, Joe and Jerry Davis.



Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Wanda Watson Davis of Etowah; two stepsons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Joan Cochran of Englewood, and Stanley and Daisy Watson of Fredericksburg, Va.; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Jarrell Disspain of Etowah; one half-brother, Paul Davis of Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Virginia Davis of Atlanta, Ga.; step-grandchildren, Michelle Cochran, Nicole Cochran, Phillip Watson, Justin and Kristen Allen, Fawna and Nick Willis, Kortney Allen and Matt Saunders, Hillary and Jake Burnette and Kaela Watson; step-great-grandchildren, Rhiannon, Hazen Amelia, Izek and James; two sisters-in-law, Betty Davis and Pearl Davis; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Ann Akins of South Carolina, and Bill and Fay Akins and Steve and Sandy Akins, all of Athens; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.



A Masonic service will be 7:30 p.m. Monday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with funeral services to follow with the Rev. John Crabtree officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and will proceed to Jones Chapel Cemetery for the 11 a.m. burial with military honors.



The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
