Countess Virginia Lois de Pourtales

Countess Virginia Lois de Pourtales, 87, passed from this earth peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2012, at Sweetwater Nursing Center.



She was born Dec. 18, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Augustus and Lois Newell Hatch; and by her husband, Count Alexandre William Guy de Pourtales. She was a resident of Tennessee since 2006, previously residing in Scottsdale, Ariz., Newport, R.I., Mexico City and New York City.



\"Jini\" was a model in her youth, and her creativity extended to painting, decorating and fashion design. She was a real estate agent and an avid volunteer: a docent at Taliesin West, she helped at Mayo Clinic-Scottsdale and Hospice of the Valley, Eckstein Center. She was a devoted member of the Catholic church. She enjoyed fashion, classic movies, music, her book club, the arts, sports and current events. She had a very caring heart and a sense of humor that will be remembered.



Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Gary and Lizz (de Pourtales) Harris of Athens, Christiane de Pourtales of Phoenix, Ariz., and Marguerite \"Gigi\" de Pourtales Davis of Santa Monica, Calif.; two precious grandchildren, Ryder and Tess Davis; two step-grandchildren, Candice Ford and Thomas Harris; four step-great-grandchildren, Ben, Kayla, Kylie and Owen.; and extended family, Russell Engelhard and Tim Davis.



She will be greatly missed by her beloved family and friends.



The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Sweetwater Nursing Center, especially South Wing, and Caris Healthcare, for their loving and professional support. Vanderwall Funeral Home of Dayton provided caring and helpful services to accommodate her wishes.



A memorial service will be 5 p.m. Friday, May 11, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, located at 649 Old Tellico Highway in Madisonville, with Father P.J. McGinnity officiating.



In lieu of flowers, Virginia suggested that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children\'s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/tribute; The Arts Center at www.athensartscouncil.org; E.G. Fisher Public Library at www.fisherlibrary.org; or to the McMinn Regional Humane Society, 219 Alford St., Athens, TN 37303.



Vanderwall Funeral Home of Dayton is in charge of arrangements.
