Robert Joseph Coakley, 75, of Athens, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.
A native of Omaha, Neb., and a longtime resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Dr. Leo P. and Ruth Ellen Saylor Coakley, and was preceded in death by his wife, Jo A. Bell Coakley, on Oct. 30, 2010. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and was a member of St. Mary\'s Catholic Church. He was an employee of Caterpillar Tractor for more than 30 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Coakley of San Antonio, Texas; and three sons, Timothy Coakley of Riner, Va., Daniel Coakley of Naperville, Ill., and Brian Coakley of Sandwich, Ill.
A Celebration of Life service will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Morning Pointe of Athens.
Burial will be held at a later date in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Aurora, Ill.
Ziegler Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
