Pauline Katherine Snyder, 91, of Sweetwater, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at Wood Nursing Home in Sweetwater.
She was born in Englewood and moved to Sweetwater in 1939 during one of the coldest winters on record and during a severe snow storm. A devoted Christian, she was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for more than 30 years. A member of \"The Greatest Generation,\" a generation who knew hard times during the Great Depression and World War II, these people were strong willed, honest, never complained and paid their bills on time. With their passing, the knowledge and stories are gone, and it is now up to us to keep their legacy alive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyal Snyder, who died in 1979 and now they are together again; her parents, Jesse and Elsie Morgan Zimmerman; one grandson, Scott Snyder; one nephew, John Zimmerman; one brother-in-law, Jack Reed; and one sister-in-law, Bernice Zimmerman.
Survivors include one sister, Gladys Reed; one brother, Ralph Zimmerman and his wife, Jo; two sons, Doug Snyder and his wife, Vickie, and Jerry Snyder and his wife, Glenda; grandchildren, Janice Ledford and her husband, Dan, Crystal Ragan and her husband, Steve, Steve Snyder and his wife, Allison, Chris Snyder and his wife, Heather, and Mike Presswood and his wife, Tammy; one niece, Ann Zimmerman and her husband, Dr. Gene Alby; one great-niece, Emily Smallcomb and her husband, Chris; great-grandchildren, Julia Forrest, Jarah and Jacee Ledford, Tatum Snyder, Bryson and Avery Snyder and Michala and Marissa Presswood; cousins by the dozens, but special ones, Inez Toomey, Harlan Brock, Larry Morgan, Faye Kincaid and Rita Guy.
There is no love like a mother\'s love. Mom saw only beauty and good in everybody and everything.
Thanks to the staff at Wood Nursing Home, especially Florene, Kathy, Rebecca and Jackie, and special friends and caregivers, Penny Shoemaker, Beverly Clowers, Amedysis Hospice, Ben and Wendy.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. at Kyker Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Carr officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in Sweetwater Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be childhood playmates who became lifelong friends, Butch Jenkins, Jimmie Presley, Ted Nichols, Mickey Wilson, Johnny Sutton, Tommy Hood, Donnie Huffman and Lamar Hughes. She called them \"Her Boys.\"
Kyker Funeral Home of Sweetwater is in charge of arrangements.
