Frank Hamilton Pierce, 87, of Athens, died Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born in Bradley County, was a former resident of Chattanooga, and a resident of McMinn County since 1958. A son of the late Frank H. and Alice Henry Pierce, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Pierce Miller and Evelyn Pierce Ray; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert \"Bob\" and Betty Pierce; and one brother-in-law, George Theodore. He was a charter member of the McMinn County Rescue Squad, where he had served as secretary and treasurer for 22 years. He was on the Board of Directors and was retired from Heritage Motor Company and had been an employee of Elder Chevrolet. He was of the Baptist faith and served in the U.S. Army National Guard as a SGT First Class.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Jo Ditmore Pierce of Athens; one brother and sister-in-law, James C. and Nita Pierce of Chattanooga; one sister, Mildred Theodore of Ooltewah; one sister-in-law, Jane Ditmore McKinney of Chattanooga; one brother-in-law, Alvin Rountree; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Bostick officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were nephews, great-nephews and friends.
The family received friends from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
