William Sterling Daugherty, 86, of Etowah, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Monroe County, he lived in McMinn County for most of his life. A son of the late William Benjamin and Ida Daugherty, he was a member of Etowah Church of Christ and was preceded in death by four brothers, Ora Lee, Zelmer W., James Larson and Walter A. Daugherty.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Gail D. and Rickie Hester of Riceville; one son and daughter-in-law, Joel W. and Janie Daugherty of Lawrenceburg; one brother, John Carson Daugherty of Englewood; one sister, Edna Mae Ammons of Englewood; grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa Hester and Mark Erwin, Stephanie Daugherty Goddard and her husband, Andy, Ben William and Kristen Daugherty and Casey J. Daugherty; two step-grandchildren, Ashley and Katie Green; great-grandchildren, William James Elliot Daugherty, Malea Rae Daugherty, Marshall Anderson Goddard and Chloe Finnell Goddard; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Special thanks to Amedysis Hospice for their loving care and support, especially Chris, Sheila and Melissa.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with Minister Will Arnold and Minister Pat Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Hill Church of Christ Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ben W. Daugherty, Dale Ammons, Ben Ammons, Michael Raby, Jason Bryson and Tommy Haney. Honorary pallbearers will be Rickie Hester, David Daugherty and Tommy Hayes.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
