Emmett O.B. Riggins Sr., 77, of Athens, died Monday evening, April 16, 2012, at Athens Regional Medical Center.



A native of Clarksville, and a longtime resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late John H. Sr. and Mary Lois Hogue Riggins. He was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Wayne Riggins; one granddaughter, Cassie Riggins; two sisters, Anna Doris Riggins and Rosa Lee Mosier; and two brothers, John and J.D. Riggins. He served for more than 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, including during the Vietnam War. He was of the Baptist faith.



Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Christine Harrison Riggins of Athens; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Donna Riggins of Athens, Patricia and Teddy Clark of Englewood, Theresa and Wayne Rookard of Athens, and Tez and Chris Clear of Cleveland; one son, Emmett O.B. Riggins Jr. of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Emmett Wayne Cash, Holly Riggins, Steven Reno, Michael Reno, Tiffany Bonior, Robert Clark, C.J. and Tyler Clear, Jennifer Hensley and Dana Rookard; great-grandchildren, Samantha Diane Cash, Rebecca Marie Cash, Walker O.B. Reno, Ethan Whittle and Ella Rose Moore; five sisters and one brother-in-law, Joyce and Dennis Collins of Clarksville, Elsie Putnam of Springfield, Shirley Copeland of Clarksville, Esther Knight of Winter Garden, Fla., and Diana Jones of Walla Walla, Wash.; and two brothers and one sister-in-law, John Jr. and Margaret Riggins of Marshall, Texas, and Doug Riggins of Clarksville.



Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Friday at Ziegler Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Davis officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday in McMinn Memory Gardens with full military honors.



Pallbearers will be Steven Reno, Michael Reno, Robert Clark, C.J. Clear, Tyler Clear and Emmett W. Cash. Jason Bonior will serve as an honorary pallbearer.



The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
