Helen Louise Morrow Sliger, 76, of Riceville, died peacefully on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville following a lengthy illness.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was born Oct. 4, 1935, to the late Sterling and Minnie Womac Morrow, and was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Ruth Morrow; two brothers, Jerry Morrow and William Thomas \"Dub\" Morrow.
She was a member of Sanford Baptist Church for 66 years and was a graduate of Calhoun High School and Puett\'s Business School. Her professional career included serving as secretary of Riceville Elementary School and as a bank teller at Riceville Bank, First National Bank and retiring from Branch Banking & Trust in 1997. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and was known for her beautiful flower gardens, but her most treasured time was the time spent with family.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Raymond Sliger of Riceville; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Rick Brown of Riceville; three grandchildren and one spouse, the Rev. Justin and Stephanie Brown, Grant Brown and his girlfriend, Kylie Lambert, and Leah Brown and her fiancé, Tyler Sauceman; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey Gonzalez, Jaxson Gonzalez and Hudson Brown, all of Riceville; one sister and brother-in-law, Sara and Jack Melton of Cleveland; one brother and sister-in-law, Ross and Linda Morrow of Riceville; two aunts, Margaret Morrow of Riceville, and Edna Housley of Etowah; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sanford Baptist Church with the Rev. Justin Brown, the Rev. Floyd Boggess, the Rev. Don Patterson and the Rev. Steve Beavers officiating. Burial will follow in Riceville Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be deacons of Sanford Baptist Church.
The body will lie in-state from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
