Fred E. Smith
Mar 12, 2010
He was a son of Zella Mae and the late Fred Smith. He was known for his love of landscaping and helping make God\'s creation beautiful. He was also known for his outstanding cooking and blessing others with the pleasures of that gift. He was a graduate of McMinn County High School, and was a very friendly person who met no strangers. He would carry on a conversation with anyone and sit and crack jokes just to make people laugh. He was very into storytelling and loved to tell old stories about his childhood.
He leaves two cherished loves of his life, Marlene McClendon, and his loving daughter, Kiera McClendon. Other survivors include his mother, Zella M. McCowan Smith; one sister, Regenia Smith; one brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Jacqueline Smith; three nieces, Kalita and Kalisha Smith and Brianna Smith; one nephew, Jules Moore of Niota; five uncles and four spouses, Philip Smith, Joe and Johnnie Mae Smith, Kenneth and Edna Sue McCowan, Louis and Evelyn McCowan and James and Pam McCowan; six aunts, Mary Frances Smith, Florene Moore, Loretta Ferguson, Oggie M. McDermott, Gladys McCowan and Ethel Mae McCowan; special nieces and nephews, Jakhyia Davis, Moriah Davis, Chad Davis, Jordan Davis, Drew McClendon, Jacques McClendon and Jimmy Miller; a special son-in-law-to be, Daniel Benson; and a host of special family members and friends too numerous to mention.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Lane Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with the Rev. J.D. Howell officiating. Burial will follow in Lanetown Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
