Emmett Harris

A native of Monroe County and a resident of McMinn County for 61 years, he was a son of the late Greeley and Harriett Baker Harris. He attended Carlock United Methodist Church, and was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army on an anti-aircraft detail assigned to protect General Eisenhower\'s headquarters after the invasion of France. He worked 31 years for Mayfield Dairy, and was retired from Harris Furniture in Cleveland. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Spencer and Homer Harris.
Survivors include his wife, Inez Hyde Harris of Etowah; one daughter, Dr. Elaine Lemings Egli and her husband, Scott, of Charleston; several nieces and nephews; many good friends; and the Etowah Health Care workers.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Monday in the South Chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Bennie Thomas officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday, and proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 2 p.m. burial.
Pallbearers will be Scott Egli, Edward Reese, Chad Reese, Donald Harris, Rick Hyde and Steve Hyde. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
