Lester L. McPhail

He would have been 92 on Feb. 13. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late William Jackson and Ester Catherine Cooper McPhail. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence McPhail, J.P. McPhail and Clyde Hedgecoth. He retired in 1981 from Athens Table Company, was a former employee of Athens Stove Works and was a farmer. He was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher at Old Pond Hill Baptist Church, and was a member of the McMinn County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Hazel Henderson McPhail of Niota; three sons and daughters-in-law, J.W. and Betty McPhail and Willard and Anna McPhail, all of Athens, and Joe and Drena McPhail of Dalton, Ga.; one daughter, Alice of Niota; one sister-in-law, O\'Dell McPhail of Athens; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Kim and Bob Dockery, Scott and Melissa McPhail, Angie and Scott Thompson, Pam and Jeff Weir, Teresa McGill, Michael and Stephanie McPhail, Timothy and Amy McPhail, Jason McPhail and Shannon McPhail; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Wendell Puett and the Rev. D.C. Kirk officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Pond Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Scott McPhail, Jason McPhail, Michael McPhail, Timothy McPhail, Blake Witt and Gage Ingram.
