James Cranfield

He was born Jan. 5, 1936, in Athens. He retired from Cobble Company after 47 years of service and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edd and Ollie Mae Cranfield; and two siblings, Willie Cranfield and Edna Hennessee. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marie Rogers Cranfield; one son and daughter-in-law, James \"Rick\" and Patty Cranfield of Ringgold, Ga.; granddaughters, Carla Hedden and Crystal Cranfield; great-grandchildren, Caleb Cranfield, Talan Cranfield, Tyler Hedden and Carley Hedden; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Elmer Swafford of Decatur, and Emma Lou and Harold Monroe and Faye and Ronnie Sneed, all of Athens; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Mae Cranfield of Elizabethton, and Paul and Joyce Cranfield, Oliver and Juanita Cranfield, Dallas and Joyce Cranfield and Kenny and Alice Cranfield, all of Athens; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and family.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Fowler, the Rev. Ed Parson and the Rev. Henry Murrey officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Idlewild Cemetery. The body will lie in-state from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
