Athens Federal Community Bank disproved the old saying, "There's no such thing as a free lunch," when they bought lunch for the first 100 customers at Jenkins Grille & Market Thursday to launch the bank's Eat, Shop & Bank Local initiative. |

Vandals damage church
Double Springs Baptist Church member Jim Wilson was surprised when he arrived there for services on Sunday morning and found the glass front door of the church shattered. A pair of channel locks apparently had been thrown through the glass. They were found lying halfway down the long hallway inside the Family Life Center, located off of County Road 750. The vandals also broke a locked door while attempting to gain entry into the building. |

DECATUR - Decatur will begin the upcoming fiscal year with a new budget but the same property tax rate. During the Mayor and Board of Aldermen's regular monthly meeting Tuesday night, one of the items approved was the first reading of an ordinance adopting the town's budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year, along with the tax rate. |

Niota selects one for interview
NIOTA - Out of a pool of five applicants, members of the Niota City Commission have decided to interview one person for the position of Class 3 wastewater treatment plant operator. After reviewing the resumes, commissioners determined that most of the applicants did not hold the correct licenses and certifications to operate Niota's wastewater treatment plant; all but one applicant was rejected for that reason. |

TTC offers Springboard entrepreneurial training
The Tennessee Technology Center at Athens, in partnership with Co.Labs of Chattanooga, will begin offering Springboard, an eight-week entrepreneur training, on Tuesday, May 15, at the Tennessee Technology Center at Athens, from 6-9 p.m. The cost of the course is $145. |

Dog bite report investigated
The McMinn County Sheriff's Department is still investigating an incident Wednesday where a woman reported she was bitten on the leg by a pitbull while riding her bicycle on County Road 460, said Sheriff Joe Guy. |
