We watch in awe and admiration each year as a variety of community awards are handed out during the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce banquet. We're awestruck as we hear how so many of our friends and neighbors have given back to their community in the most unselfish manner by spending their time to make our community such a wonderful place to live. -

Comments on police & they're not all critical
Law enforcement brought in the most comments over the past few days, but no one agency was targeted for criticism. In fact, not all those comments were critical and one actually expressed thanks for help during the weekend snow. -

If you don't speed, you won't have to pay that hefty fine
"Sound Off" comments over the past week centered mainly around political issues again. While most were critical of government operations, one caller pointed to recent comments about Calhoun police writing speeding tickets in that small town. His advice, don't drive so fast and you won't get cited and have to pay the high fine.
