Niota School pitches in for veterans

The McMinn County Veterans Service Office recently enlisted the help of Niota Elementary School on a project to put together boxes for soldiers and airmen deployed to Afghanistan. Niota Elementary made 66 boxes and also had extra supplies to help meet the project quota. Local veterans also contributed to the boxes. Each box contains powder drink mix, protein breakfast bars, candies and several other things. They also contain artwork from the kids and letters from people in the McMinn County Courthouse and veterans who have stopped by The McMinn County VSO. The boxes will be delivered to the Air Advisory Wing in Afghanistan. The goal of the project is to make sure all 177 people will receive a box on Christmas. Renee Nicolo’s Niota Elementary Pre-K class made 23 boxes and the girls basketball team made 12 boxes. Employees from the driver’s license office also contributed to the boxes.
